I never felt India is truly independent. We only drove the British away, but not the parasites that are ruining our unity. "Give me 100 dynamic youth i will bring prosperity to India" this is the quote by swami Vivekanandha... but for me even if there are more than 100 Swami Vivekanandha still its hard to achieve the independence.

I don't mean to give the proper answer to this question. But I'd like to share my thoughts on what I feel of an independent India.

India is truly an independent country when all the people sleep atleast for one night without fear.

India is truly an independent country when all the people have their food atleast for one day.

India is truly an independent country when all the people feel glad to love and help each other.

India is truly an independent country when communalism is rooted away.

India is truly an independent country when the atrocities towards women are stopped and they are respected.

Finally and most importantly when each and everyone ,especially our leaders are free of corruption.

Will this be possible? Please take each answers to this question right into your heart and feel the need for it.It's to save our nation. On this independece day, let's take a pledge in our mind to strive for making our country truly independent.

I think only some parts of India is Independent but not all,the reason is

1 ) In KASHMIR there is no independence for people who live there, similar situation for non-local people who come to MUMBAI, due to SIVA SENA,and another situation is the recent Telangana issue in AP.

2 ) Today it is becoming difficult to live in Metros due to Terrorists,It is a huge failure of government. But even one terrorist attack didnt happened in the US after WTC attacks 2001.

The main reason for problem(1) mentioned above is, people who elects politicians and the people who dont do vote during elections.

According to me there are no strict rules and regulations in India and that is the situation i felt "India is truly an Independent country".

I find many reasons to feel India is a free country.

1.People are free to abuse and say anything against the Government, the country, its President and PM. which is unthinkable in many other countries.

2. Political parties can stage Bandhs any where and anytime, paralyzing the Government machinery and even causing immense problems to common people and daily wage earners.

3.Any one can damage and set on fire the national properties.

4.Distinguished MPs can wave wads of currency notes in the Parliament.

5.Any one is free to loot and plunder public money and deposit it in Swiss banks.

6.Ministers stage genocide for political mileage and become hero.

7.One religious community is free to destroy the place of abode of other community.

8.Leaders give order to demolish a structure of religious contention causing wide spread killing of innocent people, destruction of public property and then become PM and senior cabinet ministers.

9.Rampant corruption at every level . Those who raise their voice against it are simply killed.

10. Sr. Political Leaders and even cabinet ministers support extremism and naxalism openly.

11.Intellectual openly support naxals.

12.Terrorists , smugglers , anti nationals are given VIP treatment in jails.

13. Supreme court Judgement is defied by Government.

14. Political Leaders raise finger of suspicion on the Patriots and brave Police Officers ,killed in encounters. Make the Terrorists hero.

15.University Chancellor provides legal and monetary support to Terrorist who butcher innocent country men.

16. Separatists and Terrorists make the Government dance on their tunes.

17. No seriousness and callous attitude in staging prestigious CWG games keeping the prestige of the country on stake

18. There is No place in Government Stores to store food Grains. But plenty of space to store WINE.

No one is answerable.

19. Food grains can rot and get damaged. But can not be distributed to poor.

The list is unending. I can cite hundreds of examples of the incidents which are unthinkable and severely punishable in other civilized countries-but NOT in India.

THIS PROVES INDIA IS A FREE COUNTRY.

if we think practically, we cant eradicate corruption but we can do two thinks

1.everyone should think (think for everyone) on their own to elect a candidate in election and not for money

2.no one should elect the party or candidate who promises to give free items (eg: color TV, etc) because it return to us as tax

3.just try to help and educate children those who have nothing in their hand

Yes i think we are independent in destroying property, causing communal disharmony (thanks to our political brass), cheating and laundering which has become the in thing today. Do not forget the bribes i.e.speed money, buying votes by providing illicit liquor to gullible voters and last but not the least we are independent to shamelessly continue to extend reservation year after year. The country got divided on the basis of religion but we have divided the society into castes and sub castes. Yes we are INDEPENDENT!

India is free country. Yes, poverty alleviation, education for all, good health services, justice, good infrastructure etc are our goals, which we are trying to achieve.

For achieving these goals we have parliament where people from all over India sits and taking decision. In the parliament we have group of all kind of people (including intellectuals, farmers, industrialist, religious, communists, women of variety of background, rich and not so rich), who take decisions to achieve these goals. Yes we do not have any representative of BPL (270 million people) in parliament.

For resources they approach to world bank, UN, ADB, Germany, EU, Japan, US and variety of countries all over the world. They are not depended on any one country.

Every country is dependent on others even rich country like US could not deny the importance of Pakistan. We have excellent relationship and reputation all over the world. We are dealing with Iran and US at same time for two different purposes.

We have tools like NREGA, PDS, Prime minister rural road scheme, NRHM, Ladli Laxmi yojna etc, which are developed by different political parties at different time to achieve above mention goals. these discussions are taken in parliament with the help govt officials, NGOs, Academic people of this great country.

There are many examples when Indian forces helped to needy countries in the world, from Maldives, Bangladesh to many African countries to protect the rights of innocent people.

There are many example in politics, where you can say many common people reach on the top post of the country. We can make list in film industry also.

We still need to achieve a lot but we can not say that we are not independent.

2.When All The People In Our Country Gets Equal Rights.

3.When All The Evil Things In Our Country Gets Ended.

4.When All The People Gets Equal Justice.

5.When Every People Becomes Equal To The Government.

6.When Every Women Be Able To Go Outside Their House At Night Time.

7.When The Poverty In Our Country Gets End.

8.When We Are Free To Our Country.

Moment I Felt That Our country Is A Independent Country Is When I Am Travelling In A Bus A Boy Is Sitting Near To Me And An Old Man Is Standing . The concept of independence is relating to the STATE. When the affairs of the STATE of India was in the hands of non-indians, India was said to be not independent and without freedom.

"THE STATUS OF ONE PERSON OR A PARTY TO HAVE THE STATE OF INDIA as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic IS TO BE AN "INDIAN ONE BY BIRTH AND DOMICILE IN INDIA". But just because, India is declared a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, in the constitution, does not make India , an Independent country, since a majority of the population in the country do not know that India is so, not just because of the constitution and preamble, but they are used to being independent of a STATE, even before independence. So, all the talk about independence, constitution, preamble, socialism, secularism, democracy, republic etc concern the STATE, HEAD OF THE STATE AND UNITS. There are still people who prefer British Rule, Ex-PM's Emergency Rule etc., So, India as a State has never had anything to do with its people.

Of course India is Independent.

The whole question lies if india is self sufficient.

Its not even about poverty, democracy, politics. Every other country in the world have these issues.

The defining moment of knowing you are in an Independent Indian in India is when you step into it after a long time away in another country.

That's Independence. You dont know you have it until its gone.

Although we are commemorating 15 August as our independence day but the question is "Are we really idependent?" Even after 63 years of so called freedom we are still struck in the vicious circle of poverty and that also not due to our incapability. Here the rich are getting richer and poor are getting poorer and then we talk about equality. Our Preamble surely confers to justice, liberty of thought , expression but are they really in practice? The answer we all know very well. The main problem here is corruption. We all have a very good example out here - The CWG project. I dont think there is need for any explainantion. And its not only the system who is to be blamed. We all are responsible for this in a manner or other. The day we pledge to change ourseleves there is no one to stop us from emerging as a next superpower. That will be the day of our true Independence.

Thank You

The people of India are rejoicing and celebrating in full spirit the country proudest day.

But that is only at the tip of the national iceberg.but it can not be overlooked that

there are still many areas where our country needs improvement.

We still have the caste system.

we still do not treat each other as equals and how can we be free?

yes,I felt this is the most defining moment.26/11 attack, and we cannot forget 26july

Mumbai flooded.every one get helping hand.

Most importantly Indian religions form one of the most defining aspects of Indian culture.none other country hold so many religion together.

It has operated under a multi-party system for most of its history.

so,

Jai Bharat!

India got freedom on 1947 Aug 15th. But I don't think India is independent. India is trying to be independent. At earlier times India was importing food grains. Now, after green revolution, India is self sufficient of food grains.

Now India is dependent either on Russia or USA for Arms. I hope it will be independent with in decades.

India is one of the larger democratic country in the world where the large powers is vested in the hands of the people, as they elect their representatives to rule the country. The constitution of India and the Indian Judiciary looks the best only on papers. But when it comes for the implementation of such plans or laws then the horrible things begin to start.

Grants from the centre never reach the needy people. There are many corrupt officials as well as mafias who rule this country. There are huge poverty, illiteracy, corruption, casteism and many more evils which make me feel that India in spite of getting independence from the Britishers has not got its true Independence.

6 December, 1992 and March 2002 were the times I felt to be living in an independent country. Otherwise this is a country of mental slaves. No matter how loud they shout of 10% GDP, the truth is even the richest of Indians are mental slaves. After all why do you call those people who still depend on a foreign language? And then glorify and justify it by telling people that it's international language.

And very well said by you Mr. Garry "one who listens to her soul and mind without any influence of others and ultimately lives to that thought, is Independent." It can be used a a quote. If I feel like eating with my hands at some so-called high profile restaurant I'll do it. If I feel like wearing dhoti I'll. If I feel like speaking in Hindi I'll. If I feel like not to open facebook account I'll not.

Actually the thing is India is "BHED CHAAL". Here people are followers not leaders and trend setters. Only countries like China, Japan, America set trends. Countries like India just follow. Despite Facebook's popularity, it is still nowhere in China, Japan, and Russia. But for Indian d***, aping Americans is the only sensible thing to do. They don't have their independent thinking, independent brains. It is not only about the English language or Facebook. Just see everywhere. They think that by aping americans they will also become civilized.

A D*** CAN'T BECOME LION BY APING A LION.

THE DAY I'LL NOT HAVE TO POLISH MY FOREIGN LANGUAGE SKILLS I'LL CONSIDER INDIA AS FREE.

THE DAY WHEN FOREIGNERS WILL BE LINING UP TO APPEAR FOR HINDI LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST TO TAKE ADMISSIONS IN OUR 3RD RATE UNIVERSITIES I'LL CONSIDER INDIA AS FREE.

Every point of time at my life I really felt that we are independent.I was in Indian Navy for 15 Years and served at various places like Mumbai, Vizag,Port Blair,Lonavala etc. I saw people not only Indian But other nationals also with free mind and without worry.

I was told by one British national mr John at Port Blair that why he loved India as tourist destination. The way he told, the things he described and put up his causes I felt proud of being Indian. That day was best of my life as citizen of this great country. I felt my self proud Indian who is really Independent.

There may be reasons for mis managing of this country due to political leaders but still our growth is better then so many developed countries. May be some grievances among us that can be resolved within our selves.

We love India and let us come forward & contribute to make it GREAT.

On 15 Aug. 1947, India got freedom from British rule but soon it got slaved to corruption, which now everywhere in India. Law is only for weaker section of society or for those who have no contacts in politics. A civilian cannot even escape if he is not wearing the seat-belt while driving whereas big politician get away after committing big crimes, uneducated politicians make progress strategies, hhhh... Is India a independent country... think again, earlier people from other country were ruling us now corrupt people are ruling us and making money. The only difference is that we have our own Flag hosted instead of an outsider but We are still slave.

Independent country determines a freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, Right to Equality and Justice.

This is what an Independent Country is about. India got independence on August 15th 1947, its been 62 years of independence.

We Celebrate this day as independent India.

But i feel every day as independent India.

When ever there is a disaster or massacre, with out any differences of caste and religion we come together and help each other.

In Every festival we show our unity and integrity, we celebrate together and show our concerns to every one that we Indians are simple, kind hearted people.

We live in a mixed religion mixed culture, mixed linguistics without any problems.

We respect every culture, every language, every religion, we have no differences though we look in different colors, but inside from heart we are same and together. No one can break this bondness.

I feel Independent from the day I am born as Indian.

Salaam To Indians,

I love my India

Of Course India became independent on 15th Aug.1947 but on that day India became only a Dominion of England. It was only on 26th Jan 1950 India became a true Independent Republic.

I feel India is truly an Independent country now. But, this independence, which was achieved in 1947, has faced lack of 'maintenance'. Cleaning and polishing and refresh to look as if new which is called 'Maintenance'. However, it is not actual independence. Though we are physically independent, mentally or genuline reliable relationships, we are still to advance as Independence is taken by Indians s the freedom from every beliefs and to work for the whole world - Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu:. Let us not to be satisfied till we achieve the real freedom.

It’s true that corruption, illiteracy, poverty and the basic lack of accountability plague our nation, but there are some things truly Indian that you learn to cherish only when you step out of the country. Some things that happen only in India…

We love cricket and nothing brings us together like this game…

We love colors and colors symbolize our diversity…

Visitors look forward to another trip because we make the first one memorable…

We may lack civic sense but are doing our best to work on it…

Let’s celebrate all that’s good this Independence Day!

INDIA.....Our country is not just land but people...and it's not just people....it's a collection of united diverse culture's of those people.

In my opinion we got Independence at the level of land and authority, but at the cultural level we have become slaves to many countries.

MATHRU DEVO BHAVA

PITHRU DEVO BHAVA

ACHARYA DEVO BHAVA

ATHIDI DEVO BHAVA.

Many youngsters don't even know what this mean, forget about knowing it.

I can't blame the youngsters as they got trained from their parents.

Modern parents are so occupied with their jobs and carrier that they have no time to look after their own children.

They got enslaved to lavish life style and weekend culture that the earnings of husband is not enough so wife also have to work out to live the life Luxury.

Mother is called first teacher, that's the reason why first place is given to mother. So...the very first teacher who is suppose to show the world to her children in proper direction is busy after worldly pleasures, then how can we expect the children to be loving children towards their parents.

Children are brought up by day care homes and Ayas. As a result the mother-father-children relationship is totally gone.

So when these children grow young they want the same free life without responsibility of taking care of their parents.

They leave them in old age homes.

Do we need this sort of Independence?

There is not poverty of wealth in India, but there is poverty of Love,Moral values in India.

I came back to India in 2006 after 14 years of being stuck in a foreign country. I was standing at the door way on the train ride to Bangalore. A retired railway employee, who was traveling with me, remarked that I seemed very happy to return to Bangalore. I remarked, I was very happy to be in my country. That is freedom.

Oh yes, we do have a long way to go as a people. Many here have equated independence as freedom from poverty, unemployment, corruption and all the ugliness we see in our country. Yes, we the people have a long way to go. We can start by understanding that we are independent to help those less fortunate, teach new skills to those who are unemployed, fight corruption where ever it rears its head and clean up after ourselves. That means stop blaming it on the invaders and do some work.

Above all, we free people chose to be a democracy. Above all else, that means freedom of expression, right to equality and fraternity assuring dignity among individuals. Guarantee of these rights are necessary in all democracies. There is no ugliness in our Parliament or Assemblies, which we have not already seen in our streets. I heard this in a movie - "one who truly believes in the idea of democracy must rise to defend the right of free speech for someone who is making statements at the top of their lungs that which the defender would shout at the top of his lungs to oppose". To believe that we must see each other as equals and not be divided on the basis of culture, language, religion, caste and economics. When we can do that, we will have fraternity.

So please stop digging up our freedom fighters to ask if they are happy with state of the nation. We are living in a free country. Its future is in our hands. We can make our pledge for this year on the 15th.

India is not truly free. We are till slaves to our caste, religion, region etc and live like tribes (who can only mingle with people of the similar tribe). We still have to break free from these shackles . Unless we break free from these shackles we can not say that we are FREE.

When we hear about change of power through a Military coup in a in our neighbouring country,

and when we see the out going Govts giving a way to form a new Govt to their opponents who have vanquished them in general elections generally after every 5 years.

While watching our news channels or reading National newspapers, when the cogent commentary or editorials goes without inhibitions.

When sensitive citizens file a PIL and suceed in focusing on some nagging problem.

No doubt india secured independence from Britain. What kind of independent india we are talking about after 64 years.Presently larger problems are booming than our independent country faced soon after 1947.Bangladeshis are comfortably crossing the border. Our politicians are hugging them for votes. We have constant threat of cross boarder terrorism from pakistan.China has already entered Arunachal pradesh. The corruption in all walks of life threatening the very security of the country.120 crores of people live in this country and there is no security of food ,shelter, clothing, education, health ,income and dignity.Therfore unless these problems are addressed,we should not feel that we have maintained our independence.

Independence, justice, equality, opportunity, thought , expression are all words that can never be attained in its true Essenes or meanings. these are our goals to keep humans in line for their betterment , advancement and better understanding. we as homo-sapiens are social animals, we need society/family/religion/country to deour selfrself and we have a basic need to rely and depend upon others(contradicting the very need of being independen).

Mahatma Gandhi/S.C Bose/Bhagat Singh and million others fought for what they thought was injustice in their own way (peacefully or forcefully) but if you ask an imperialist british they were all enemies of the 'then' state. in present day India there are no more british but there are still Bhagat singhs fighting for their beliefs which in the eyes of the state are terrorists/nexalites. So if you ask one of those guys if they are independent, the answer will be 'Hell no'.

Historically speaking, our roots go way back then any other civilization in the world so lets not taint our history by looking at few centuries of british rule and consider our selves becoming independent few decades ago and lets stop our children from becoming stereotypes by reading material that we were taught. Let us all try and give our kids the chance to understand the true meaning of Independence as they are the ones who are going to represent our great country.

PS: its said that Bhagat Sings vision of independence was not limited to getting rid of Britt's he was trying to convey to future generations that if don't fight against in-justice and other anti-social elements then one day we will be slaves to someone from within our own country.

Oh! It has to be as early as 1857 when the 'rulers' felt it for the first time in a big way!

Otherwise, there would have been people who 'mistook' that independence to be freedom from want of money, power etc which they could not 'earn' themselves, and chose to be 'stooges' of people who really proved their utmost 'commercial ability' by even taking the 'rule' into their hands, when all that they had hoped to do when they came here was mere 'trade'!

If I feel 'constrained' to 'search' for that 'defining' moment within the restricted sphere of my own life span, it would end up merely as an illusion! (Already about 5 years of age goes in 'kiddo' period. Then the sleeping hours, the 'whiling' away hours, etc would reduce the search area to a mere brief spell during which, we 'happened' to experience a little bit of freedom to do what we liked. Maybe, what we liked to do was also the right thing to do, but would have been difficult under a 'rule'. It is not about trying to look down upon the spirit of common man who attempts to grasp the spirit of independence 'experientially. It is an attempt to 'relive' the best of spirits of people who knew they would not 'live long enough' to see the Independence actually happening, but had immense trust in the future generations, to be able to remember them, their spirit and carry forward the 'baton' that they handed down to us as early as 90 years ahead! (Let us not also forget the way our young heroes demonstrated yet another KIND OF DEATH on 23rd March, 1931!.... I am unfortunate, I concede, if I am unable to think of a better defining moment!)

The day when all our politicians both ruling and opposition start thinking about the common man of this great country, stop doing all malpractices, surrender all the wealth so far amassed to the treasury of the Government and when our administrators i.e. government officials stop taking bribes, start to recognise talents, skill, knowledge etc., our beloved country will truly be independent. That moment is not coming even in dreams.

I'm an indo-american..

I've been for a while in India..

I'm fascinated by the country's rich heritage, its colors, festivals, the unity among different religions..

The spicy food makes me wonder how Indians can pop peppers in their mouth..

I WILL truly feel that India's an Independent country WHEN more of the below is done:

People will have jobs..

None are left hungry..

Everybody has a shelter ..

Basic education is ensured to every Indian..

Well-maintained and planned Infrastructure..

Pollution control..

Cultures are saved from dying..

Less of Eve-Teasing..

Medical development..

Medication benefit to every citizen whether rich or poor..

No barrier of age, cast, creed, sex, color, or on the basis of wealth..

No dirtying of roads by disposing garbage, spitting, pissing by the roads...

and lots more..

Of course, India cannot become Beijing in over-night..

but little contribution by every Indian can make a lot of difference..

The leaders of India shed their tears, sweat and blood to turn this country fit to live in when they were tied in chains of slavery..

They initiated things, and the rest participated too!

If we practice the good things, others WILL HAVE to practice them too..

I wonder what they imagined and wanted their dream India would be..

India is such a beautiful place when you think it as a mother or origin..

Counting without which no worthwhile scientific discovery would have been made...

Sanskrit which gave birth to many European Languages..

The diversifying cultures...

She can reach the skies, soar like an eagle..

But all thats good just leaves this place..

If only they could stay back, clean the trash, represent india in their own fields of discoveries & development...and etc - etc

I'll believe that India is now free..that she is now an independent country WHEN a rich person can sit by the side of a rickshaw puller and study..

when cases like child & women trafficking are less to hear..

A safe environment to live in peacefully...

Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE..

The word impossible itself says that I M POSSIBLE

At number of occasion It is being felt. When elect our Representative for our parliament, our Assemblies, our municipalities and our village panchaiat. When our people are head of our nation. When we chalk out our policies to live and develop as a nation with mutual piece full coexistence. When our policies and action are targeted to full fill our national interest.

It always happen after Independence from Britishers

I would realize TRUE independence for India when India would give right of freedom to Kashmiris because everyone knows that KASHMIRIS DO NOT WANT TO LIVE WITH INDIA.

i think independent means who doesn't depends on someone. through this definition India is independent.

yes there are other problems like corruption, poverty, population, bad leadership, unemployment etc but these problems do not comes under the category of in-dependency or dependency.

our country has its own government, and we produce most of the things by our self and also produce for another countries. this is called globalization, not dependency.

We celebrate 15 aug because we got freedom from outsiders but what about our internal freedom. We are still fighting - Like from Poverty,Corruption, Child Marriage, Girl infant's killing, Honor Killing, Naxalism and some more.

So for me REAL INDEPENDENT DAY WILL BE WHEN WE HAVE ALL AROUND LOVE, PEACE AND HAPPINESS.
2010-08-15 10:02:18 UTC
When the President can address nation without bullet proof glasses.

When the public can celebrate without the fear of police or time restrictions.

When the public exercise their freedom without the fear of relgions and caste related restrictions

When the media hav the freedom of publishing or broascasting without fear of political goons.

When you get essentials like food and shelter for the same price throughot the country.

When you really get Justice, eqiuality in social, economic and political; Liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; Equality of status and of opportunity which are on books.

Since the day I was born, as I grew up, till date, I have always lived in an Independent India.

However, Independent India doesn't mean "the greatest country in the world" because we are far from that, if that's what you (or any other answerers) intended to imply. India once was great.

yes many things are told. but all of us wanted to live in the way we wanted than being slaves. but dont you see some times now only we are more like slaves, with the internal politics etc. and corruption to the extreme. but yes i once, felt we became independent, when there was a pressure few years back regarding the common civil code. one rule for all Indians. great!!! after all we are Indians. we want to be Indians.

When every indian takes care of the flag, when they are preparing any cloth designs and while applying on shirts. One must know the correct color formate i.e., saffron, white and Green. As i have seen the Deccan Chronicle paper toady 14/08/2010 I found one picture in which one girl is wearing chunni that resembles the flag and she is wearing it up-side down, Be couscous with Indian Flag, don't be shamed after making it up-side down......

When the present incompetent, corrupt politicians are replaced with young dynamic, honest and faithful take over the leadership of the nation, to establish truly caste less and classless society.

Independence does not mean license to do what one pleases. Individual rights come after basic duties

Duty should be first and then comes the rights

When politicians commit suicide in shame with a guilty feeling that he is so corrupt and Gaddar. That people put him in power with a trust and he filled up his own swiss bank account. When the supreme court initiate pil (public interest litigation!) on its own and teach corrupt people a good lesson. When many people (thousands, millions, crores) in the country wakes up and ask the responsible authorities about steps taken against corrupt colleagues.

Well!!!!!!

Even this moment I feel that India is truly independent!!!

We have freedom to speak, freedom to claim for our basic necesstities.....

Even today, many politicians in India speak with hatred content. They speak on the basis of regional importance.

Few of them even speak against the soverginity of India!!!

Had India been not dependent, many of those politicians would have been hanged to death for their speech!!!

We feel the independence as we have such craps alive around!!

Further, we will feel our independence only when we are forced to do something in another nation!!!!

I will call myself a very proud Indian when ,I find a very poorman's son is having education, food, clothing, shelter and does not go begging for these anymore. Then only I will consider we have got independence from our internal shortcomings, and going to develop in all fields.

I am not expecting these to happen overnight like a magic,as I never believed in magic.I believe in myself,my fellow Indian brothers and sisters who are working very hard whether they are in INDIA or overseas.Let my dreams come true in a appropriate, reasonable time,by hard work, dedication, team work.

Thanks for asking such a lovely question on such a very important day. You,too deserve a applaud for asking such a very nice question.

Yes, i feel every minute of my life that India is an independent country and that is why people here take laws in their hands and do whatever they want to do.Nobody acts according to the rules and regulations instead they make rules of their own. Here, people do whatever they feel like. So, yes i would say our country is independent of all rules, regulations and duties.

This type of freedom can be seen everywhere specially on roads when people don't follow traffic rules.

I think we ae still under a mental and political block. Independence, for me, does not mean that you are free to go anywhere, to eat anything, to speak anything etc. Independence is to show your existence to the rest of the world around you, Independence is something you feel from inside. We are still living under influence of others, be it a society person, political person or a nation. Are we living the same ways American lives? Do we have the liberty to make things clear to the rest of the world. Indian has been technically developed to a great extent, our technology, education system is one of the best if not best in the world. But we are still looking to be educated or to be appointed in US or GB, why? Is this the kind of freedom we want. Why do we always follow others and not let others follow us? Why do we always think that English is our National Language and without knowledge of English, we would never get a good job or would not be recognised among other leading countries. Why don't we take examples of China and Japan (or US may be) who always think that they are here to set the trends and others are to follow those trends.

At last, I just have to say one thing. Be it an Indian or American, one who listens to her soul and mind without any influence of others and ultimately lives to that thought, is Independent.

We have freedom of speech, we can openly criticize our rulers.

Then there is so many other rights like Right to information,Right to education,Both are really important.Gone are the days when people(Esp. in govt. offices) used to keep you in dark about your matters or when people did not educate their daughters but only to sons. Now,there is very little difference between girls and boys and i've got to say that our country is progressing!

For your information, if we go back to Indian History, India was never single country, even during British rule. Even Ramayana or Mahabharata say that India was a single country. Only for getting rid of British people joined together after wards as usual. All north south or east west equations. What ever you have mentioned ( The Preamble also goes to confer on all Indians Justice, social, economic and political; Liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; Equality of status and of opportunity; and promotes among all of us Fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation) are confined to books only. Those who sit in chair go on minting money, they want only power, position and entire administrative structure supports. And the common people those who work work on without food, shelter and social protection. If any body asks such questions what you have done shall be treated as naxals or terrorist or antisocial.

-Where you get car loan @5% but education loan @12%.

-Where rice is Rs. 40, but sim card is free.

-Where people worship goddess Durga but want to kill their girl child.

-Olympic shooter wins gold, govt gives 3 crore, another shooter dies fighting with terrorist, govt pays 1 lakh.

STILL WE ARE STAYING IN A INDEPENDENT COUNTRY.

Its not when I felt India is an independent country. But it’s all about why I feel India is an independent country. Today I earn for my self. I earn and can spend wherever or whatever I want for. Today in law protected society my rights are safe guarded as they should be with all. I wake up every morning without any fear that I will need not to obey some unwanted people except my own elders/relatives. All thanks goes to our great freedom fighters who gave us at the cost of their lives and happiness a free India for us.

Thanks And Best Regards

We r independent from English rulers far back...just enjoy it..Then why we feel that we r not independent ?.. We should ask simple questions to ourselves.... like #1 what is dependability of our nation today ? science...technology...improve ur self to improve it...don't /prevent harassment who r doing that. Each n every sector of nation wants ur participation personally...actually we r dependent over our own attitude ...take an example..how many of us do not throw plastics on roads instead throwing it in dustbin? (u will find that someone riding his precious car will through plastic of 'namkin' over d road and will not keep it in his car 4 sometime to throw it in proper place!!!...how many of us remains in a queue when waiting in public place? yes,We r dependent. (desh k liye nare lagane wale hum log !!! should shout once at ourselves.) there may be lots of questions about what to do for nation in ur mind , do one thing, just ask a simple question to yourself for that matter, answer will be there...if it is not there..then ask me !!

India is independent from the britishers, but it still has to become independent from corruption, misery and poverty. Well, one day, as I was walking back home from some work, I saw a man who (I think) was homeless. He looked very poor, but he was not a begger. As I began to watch him, I saw that someone else (who looked rich) began to talk to him. I started to walk close by so that I could hear them. The rich one was offering the poorer one a room in his house !!! This is actually very rare in India. I felt a little gratitude/proudness in myself for the rich man. As for the poor man, well, he gladly accepted.
